Autumn Outdoor Living Space Ideas

Sharing is caring!

The weather is cooling and it’s time to revive your outdoor spaces. Here are some autumn outdoor living space ideas that will help you get the most out of this time of year.

Autumn is by far my favorite time of year. I love the change in colors of the leaves, the cooler temps, and football!

I get really tired of the heat and humidity so when the temps and humidity fall I love to get back outside. Here are some great ideas for you to create a lovely outdoor autumn space.

Fire Pits and Outdoor Fireplaces

I love a good fire pit! There are a ton of options. You can do something like in the photo above, you can build one in your yard with stone, or you can check out some smokeless options like the Solo Stove.

Fire safety is also something you can teach your older children so that as they move on in life they know what to do.

One thing I don’t like about fire pits is the smoke. It always seems to blow right in my face.

One thing you can do instead is build a fireplace. This option brings a focal point to your outdoor room. It also creates a wonderful outdoor living space.

Incorporate Fall Foliage

Adding some fall foliage is a no-brainer! I love the way they incorporated fall stems in vases and bottles as well as a garland on the table!

I love to add mums to my front porch and my deck. A lot of people use hay bales to elevate their fall foliate and some add corn stalks to posts to bring in some amazing texture.

Start Cooking Outdoors

Outdoor cooking is not just for the summer. Get out there and cook on the grill, entertain and enjoy eating outside! The bugs are minimal now and the temps are so much nicer.

Decorate in Autumn Colors

Autumn colors are wonderful and the best part of the fall (that and the cooler temperatures). I love to use greens, oranges, yellow, and red in all my fall home decor. Just think about what Mother Nature provides for us and use it in your decor.

You also don’t need to stick with these colors. Metallics are great for the autumn!

You also can incorporate some other colors in your fall decorating such as white, blue, and blue-greens. I think you can see tons of examples in all the photos here to get inspired to add these colors to your home and outdoor spaces.

Hang a Modern Wreath

The first thing your guests see is your front porch. Whether you DIY one or buy one a fun modern autumn wreath will welcome everyone coming to your home.

Plant Autumn Containers

I love to use mums in my fall pots but you don’t need to only thing mums. Ther are so many other options for fall containers.

I love the photo above that is from a local store here in central Ohio called Bakers Village Garden. I get tons of stuff all year round from Bakers! They also will do custom planters for you.

If you aren’t sure how to create a gorgeous planter give some places a call and see if one has the kind of service where they will do it for you!

Add Textiles – pillows and throw blankets (especially plaid)

Adding throw blankets and pillows helps you enjoy your outdoor spaces for a much longer time. I love to incorporate throws with a lot of texture that makes me feel very cozy.

I also love plaid this time of year! Think about taking a flannel and putting it in pillow and throw blanket form!

Gourds

Pumpkins are fantastic and a symbol of fall but there are so many more types of gourds you can add to your outdoor spaces that add a lot of different colors, shapes, and textures!

I love the flat ones that you can stack as well as the ones that have a bunch of bumps on them. They just add so much more character!

Lighting

The sun goes down a little earlier this time of year so adding some great mood lighting is a fabulous idea! You can hang patio lights across the space or some fun lights in trees. Even candles are a great idea!

I hope you have gotten some really good ideas on how to spruce your space up for the autumn season. I know I am super excited to get outside!
