I get asked a lot about paint colors. One of the questions is what is teal? Teal is a color that is a combination of blue and green. It’s generally darker in nature.
A modern teal paint color is going to have blue and green but also gray in it. Gray has this amazing feature of calling down other paint colors and making the overall color more muted.

How to know if a paint color is right for you?
The best way to judge if a color is good for you then you will want to put a swatch on the wall and look at it over a few days. Look at it in different lights and decide if you really like it.
You can do this by getting a sample from the paint store and using a brush to put it up on the walls, but then you are left with a can that you can’t do anything with. Those samples are used with poor quality paint and aren’t meant for use on your walls permanently.
I recommend going with Samplize. They are a company that will send you a 12X12 peel and stick swatch of a paint color that you can stick to the wall. When you are done just peel it off and throw it away.
It’s easy and much less messy!
Best Teal Paint Colors from Sherwin Williams
Here are the best teal paint colors from Sherwin Williams.
Waterloo

Waterloo is a gorgeous deep blue color with a touch of green and gray. The gray really helps keep this color muted.
Sherwin Williams says this color gives the feel of rain, soaked blue. It’s dark with an LRV of 13 and evokes a feeling of calm and well-being.
Deep Sea Dive

It’s amazing how different light sources can make a color look different. As you can see from the swatch this is a dark teal color but in the dining room photo, it looks much more blue in the cool northern light.
Deep Sea Dive is a teal color with an LRV of 10, making it pretty dark. Its gray undertones mutes the blue and green and evoke a feeling of restfulness.
Riverway

Riverway is also a darker teal with an LRV of 16. It’s a gorgeous cool blue with green and gray undertones.
This color leans a bit more green but that can change depending on the time of day and the type of light a room receives. It’s a true chameleon but an absolutely stunning color.
Still Water

Still Water is exactly what the name is, a gorgeous dark blue with green and gray undertones. It’s like looking into a deep lake.
This color has an LRV of 10, making it really dark. Colors like this are perfect neutrals because they are dark, have gray in them which mutes the other colors, and are a perfect backdrop for allowing your accessories to make the statement in a room.
Grand Canal

Grand Canal is lighter than some of the other teals with an LRV of 16. It has a little less gray in it which allows the blue and green to take center stage.
Tempe Star

Tempe Star is a gorgeous teal with strong green and gray undertones. As you can see I used it on a dresser in my daughter’s bedroom. It shows more blue in this photo but in real life, it is a strong teal and is the statement piece in the room.
I love pairing teal colors with brushed gold. I have the mirror above and the hardware for the dresser in gold.
Refuge

Believe it or not this color has an LRV of 19, making it lighter than a lot of other teal colors. It’s got a lot more blue in it as well.
This color is part of the Historical Collection at Sherwin Williams making it a tried and true color that will stand the test of time.
Best Teal Paint Colors from Benjamin Moore
It’s funny but Sherwin Williams doesn’t call many of these colors teal. It calls them blue with green and gray undertones.
Benjamin Moore on the other hand calls it like it is. These are their best teal colors.
Galapagos Turquiose

Galapagos Turquoise is a gorgeous dark teal with an LRV of 9.45. Benjamin Moore says “it mirrors the depths of the darkest waters”.
This is a gorgeous neutral color that, as you can see from the photo above, will allow your artwork and accessories to stand out.
Gibraltar Cliffs

Gibraltar Cliffs is by far one of the lightest mentioned here for teal colors. Its LRV is 31.77, making it a medium-toned paint color.
This color has almost equal parts blue, gray, and green. Some people call it a gray with blue/green undertones, but Benjamin Moore says it’s a blue with green and gray undertones. Either way, it’s beautiful and a great color to choose if you want a lighter teal.
Newburg Green

Newburg Green is a very stylish teal color. It’s perfect for an accent wall or piece of furniture and really stands out against a nice crisp white (as you can see from the photo above).
This color is on the darker side with an LRV of 10.58.
Bella Blue

Bella Blue is part of the Classic Color Collection and it’s easy to see why in the library above. It’s a little lighter with an LRV of 17.5, not quite in the medium zone yet but getting close to it.
This blue teal has less green in it than others.
Jack Pine

Jack Pine is more of an emerald green with a touch of teal in it. It’s a unique and absolutely stunning color. I love it on the cabinetry in this photo, especially paired with the pinks in the area rug.
This color is a touch on the lighter side than the others with an LRV of 16.45.
Polished Slate

Polished Slate is more of a green with blue and gray undertones. It has an LRV of 14.91, so kind of a medium/dark color.
Best Teal Paint Colors from Behr
Wanderlust

Wanderlust is a classic teal color with an LRV of 11. This color is simply stunning especially as an accent wall or on furniture/cabinetry.
Nocturne Blue

Nocturne Blue can be argued about whether it is actually a teal. It’s a gorgeous blue with green and gray undertones, but the blues really take over in certain light.
This color is dark with an LRV of 7. It is reminiscent of stargazing in the deep summer.
Mountain Pine

Mountain Pine is a little lighter with an LRV of 15. It’s more of a green with blue and gray undertones.
As you can see it looks amazing with white, black, as well as the brown in the leather chair. This is a great color for a nursery, kids room, office, and family room. I would also consider using it on wainscoting and furniture.
Dragonfly

Dragonfly borders right on the dark to medium-toned. It has an LRV of 26. It’s considerably lighter than a lot of other teal colors but this color does not disappoint. It has a ton of personality.
