Adding a bit of color to your cabinets is a great way to inject some personality into a room, especially a room like kitchens and bathrooms that tend to be cold and sterile. Sage Green has become one of the most popular colors and today I have the 17 best sage green paint colors for cabinets that you should be using!
Like I said, sage green has become so incredibly popular. So much so that both Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore have chosen a sage as their paint color of the year for 2023! Isn’t that insane! So it just makes sens for you to think of that color as an option for your cabinets.
I love adding a bit of color into a room on furniture or cabinets. I like to keep walls fairly neutral so that my furniture and accessories can make a statement. Sage green is the perfect color to make that statement.
What color is sage green?
Sage Green is a combination of green with gray. It can be light or dark, warm or cool. The touches of gray keep the color from pulling to much warm or gray. It keeps it grounded in a more neutral tone.
What I really love about sage green is its calmness. It really brings the feeling of nature into your home and gives everything such an organic feel.
Are sage green and mint green the same color?
No, these colors are totally different. The biggest difference is the gray that is in sage green. Without that gray, you will have a completely different color.
Mint green is brighter and sage green has a more subdued tone because of the gray.
How to know if a paint color is right for you?
The best way to judge if a color is good for you then you will want to put a swatch on the wall and look at it over a few days. Look at it in different lights and decide if you really like it.
You can do this by getting a sample from the paint store and using a brush to put it up on the walls, but then you are left with a can that you can’t do anything with. Those samples are used with poor-quality paint and aren’t meant for use on your walls permanently.
I recommend going with Samplize. They are a company that will send you a 12X12 peel-and-stick swatch of a paint color that you can stick to the wall. When you are done just peel it off and throw it away.
It’s easy and much less messy!

Best Sage Green Paint Colors for Cabinets from Benjamin Moore
The great thing about Sage Green is you can go light or dark, or somewhere in the middle. Here are my top picks for cabinets.
Benjamin Moore October Mist
October Mist is Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year for 2022! So it’s only fitting that I include it here in the list of best sage paint colors. Honestly, it’s probably one of my favorite sage green colors.
This color is the perfect blend of green and gray. It’s a mid-toned sage with an LRV of 46.54. This color not only brings the feel of nature into your home but it uplifts your home and makes you feel happy.
Benjamin Moore Saybrook Sage
Saybrook Sage is very similar to October Mist but it leans a tad more toward the green side, aloe green to be specific. It has an LRV of 45.46 so it also is a mid-toned sage but a smidge darker than October Mist.
Benjamin Moore Hollingsworth Green
Hollingsworth Green leans a little more towards the minty side but it does have gray in it so it’s still considered a sage. Being more minty this color has green, gray, as well as blue in it.
Benjamin Moore Sage Wisdom
Sage Wisdom is a little bit darker than the previous two with an LRV of 43.98, still in the mid-tone range though. This color is a popular color in spas because of the relaxing vibe it has. So if you need a little calm in your home this would be a good color to choose.
Benjamin Moore High Park
This color is so beautiful! It’s definitely darker with an LRV of 30.43 so if you plan to use this one make sure you use it in a room with lots of natural light.
Benjamin Moore Night Train
Night Train is also darker with an LRV of 22.8. This color is more gray than green but still has that calming effect. This one is one of my favorites and would look amazing on kitchen cabinets.
Benjamin Moore Oil Cloth
Oil Cloth to me is a gorgeous mid-toned color that is reminiscent of an old farmhouse. It’s the perfect color to promote the feeling of age and maturity. It has an LRV of 35.31. This is the color used in the photo at the top of this article. Isn’t it just perfect!
Benjamin Moore Texas Sage
Texas Sage is definitely more green than gray but you can see how gorgeous it is on the exterior of this home. It has an LRV of 34.21.
Benjamin Moore Hillside Green
Hillside Green also has more green than gray but really speaks to nature. It’s very lush and looks amazing on cabinets, board and batten, or furniture. The LRV is 33.81.

Sherwin Williams is getting in on the sage action here with Svelte Sage. It’s probably one of their more popular sages. This color has an LRV of 41 and while it’s green and gray I also see a touch of brown which gives it an earthy feel.
Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog
Evergreen Fog has been named Sherwin Williams color of the year for 2022! As you can see sage is extremely popular if both of these manufacturers have named their paint color of the year a sage green.
Evergreen Fog is a gorgeous sage that is a bit on the darker side with an LRV of 30. This color has the perfect blend of green and gray!
Sherwin Williams Clary Sage
Clary Sage is very similar to Benjamin Moore Oil Cloth. It’s definitely lighter but has the same age and maturity feeling that Oil Cloth has. It has an LRV of 41.
Sherwin Williams Coastal Plain
This color was named appropriately because it has the feeling of sea glass and sandy shores with the water coming up over your feet. It’s gorgeous!
Coastal Plain has an LRV of 37 so it’s a tad darker but the calm and relaxing feeling it gives you is so worth it!
Sherwin Williams Retreat
Retreat is the darkest color we will discuss today but it’s probably one of my favorites! It has the perfect blend of green and gray but with its depth of color, it is one of the best sage colors you will find.

Sherwin Williams Acacia Haze
Acacia Haze is a tad greener than gray and as you can see really lightens up in a room with ample natural light. It has an LRV of 32.
