How to Decorate the Top of Kitchen Cabinets

A great way to add your personality to your kitchen is to add decor to the tops of the cabinets. This makes a hard, cold kitchen warm with things that make you happy!

Here are some great ways you can bring your personality into your kitchen.

Add Texture Above the Cabinets on the Wall

Adding texture above the cabinets is a great way to add interest to your kitchen. It can be with brick, as in the photo above. Other ideas would be shiplap, beadboard, or even extending the backsplash above the cabinets.

Extend the Cabinets

I love this idea. You can extend the cabinets to the ceiling with solid fronts for extra storage or glass fronts so you can display decorative items. You never can have enough storage in your kitchen!

Add Layered Accessories

I like the idea of taking different accessories and layering them. You can do this above cabinets or on top of a piece of furniture. It’s a great way to add texture and personality.

Add Woven Baskets

If you need a little more storage but can’t go to the expense of extending the cabinets, try adding woven baskets. You can use them for storage, and they are decorative.

Add a Farmhouse Sign

You don’t have to have a farmhouse to add a farmhouse sign. They are so welcoming and bring a warmth to your kitchen.

Keep it Functional

Another way to add extra storage is to add another shelf and display your pretty kitchen items, such as mixing bowls or jars with rice or beans in them.

Display Your Cookbooks

This is a great idea because there is never a good place to store your cookbooks! Now you can add color and texture and have your cookbooks at an arm’s reach. Or if you are like me (short) at an arm’s reach and step stools!

Decorate Above Cabinets With Cutting Boards

Cutting boards have become so decorative! They are great items to display in your kitchen, where they are easy to grab at a moment’s notice.

Decorate with Mirrors

If you have a small space or not a lot of natural light, mirrors are the perfect thing to decorate with because they bounce light around the space and make the room feel bigger.

Add Wallpaper

Similar to adding brick or stone above your cabinets, you can add wallpaper. This is great if you are on a tight budget.

Decorate with Plants and Greenery

Plants are great because they add life to any space. Kitchens can be pretty hard, cold, and sterile. By adding plants, you bring life and freshness, as well as color!
