Sherwin Williams Shoji White: Paint Color Review

Sharing is caring!

Are you having trouble finding the right off-white paint color? Look no further than Sherwin Williams Shoji White!

Shoji White is a very unique off-white paint color that can change colors with the other items in it’s environment. The type of light bulbs can also affect it!

It’s all in here…everything you need to know so let’s get into it.

What are the undertones of Sherwin Williams Shoji White?

I mentioned that the color can be a bit of a chameleon. The undertones are a big reason why.

Shoji White has a cream base, which means it has a good amount of yellow in it. But it also has a touch of gray in that base, which tones down the yellow. Making it a great modern color.

It also has a touch of red (most showing as pink). This color is not a taupe, gray, or beige. It’s a cream. It will not show the pink/red unless the other things in the room are red, then you will see it come out.

What is Shoji White’s LRV?

LRV stands for Light Reflective Value. It’s a scale that measures the amount of light a paint color reflects. Zero is the darkest black and 100 is the brightest white.

The LRV for Shoji White is 74 which makes it pretty darn bright! But it’s not the brightest out there. This is a great trim color for the exterior because it’s not going to get too washed out.

How to know if a paint color is right for you?

The best way to judge if a color is good for you then you will want to put a swatch on the wall and look at it over a few days. Look at it in different lights and decide if you really like it.

You can do this by getting a sample from the paint store and using a brush to put it up on the walls, but then you are left with a can that you can’t do anything with. Those samples are used with poor-quality paint and aren’t meant for use on your walls permanently.

I recommend going with Samplize. They are a company that will send you a 12X12 peel-and-stick swatch of a paint color that you can stick to the wall. When you are done just peel it off and throw it away.

It’s easy and much less messy!

Now, Shoji White is really light and bright, so if you are looking for another color to make it stand out, you need to go with something not so creamy and maybe a higher LRV.

My go to for trim is Sherwin Williams Pure White. It’s probably my favorite white color. I used it on three walls in my daughter’s bedroom, and it’s simply gorgeous!

What are the best coordinating colors?

Shoji White is a bright creamy paint color that goes with just about anything. I mean it! But if you want some specifics here are my favorites to pair with it.

  • Greige paint colors
  • Light and medium gray paint colors
  • Green-Gray paint colors
  • Blue-gray paint colors (especially darker ones)
  • Blue-green paint colors
  • Medium to dark greens

What are the worst colors to pair with Shoji White? I would say you should completely stay away from other creams, beige, and tan because the undertones can somethings clash with one another.
