Luxurious
Luxury in the dining room is very on trend right now. Think large, oversized furniture or big upholstered pieces. Bringing a chair into your dining room that you can sit at for long periods of time, is a luxury.
The above photos show amazing upholstered chairs that have fabric to the floor. They look incredibly comfortable.
These chairs look like something you would have in your living room! They are tailored and very structured but also look fabulously comfortable!
I have always had a soft spot for large round dining tables. A large wooden round table that allows for conversation with all of your guests is perfect. These upholstered chairs aren’t as luxurious as the previous chairs, but they still look like a chair one could sit in for an extended meal.
Light and Bright
Light and Bright rooms have been popular for a long time. They are still very on trend, but dark and moody have also become popular.
It’s easy to do light and bright with a wall of windows. The natural light in this space is everything!
What is really special about this dining room is all the light and bright pieces in the furniture, wall color, drapery, and light fixture, and then you have the focal piece in the sideboard.
This dining space is very monochromatic in off-white and beige. The light pieces help keep the space light and bright, while the windows provide more than enough natural light.
Statement Pieces
Statement pieces really draw the eye and give a room a lot of character. As in the photo above with the dark sideboard, they can anchor a room and give it personality.
There is nothing special about a rectangular wood table but when you have the carved detail on the legs as this table does, well that is very special.
This dining room has two statement pieces. These chairs are very different; they almost have the look of envelopes. And the wood ceiling is a very large statement!
Use a Bench for More Seating
If you have a large family or entertain a lot then having a bench on one side (or both) of the table really creates a lot more seating. Especially for children, they don’t take up as much space and you can fit more on a bench than you can in a chair that takes up more space than their backsides do.
Curved Furniture
A huge trend right now is curved furniture. I don’t mean oval or round tables. I mean curved chairs and curved sideboards and hutches.
Look how modern and fun these curved chairs are. Not to mention the view out of the window!
This round table has a unique round feature with the fluted pedestal!
Would you like to save this?
Here are curved chairs in a more casual dining situation.
And here is an oval table with a curved pedestal, a little different than the fluted one above.
Dark and Moody
We talked about light and bright, but dark and moody is so trendy right now! Usually, the best way to achieve this is with dark-painted walls. But you could also achieve it with dark furniture and drapes.
This enormous dining room has beautiful dark green walls, creating a very earthy feel to the space. The white upholstered chairs keep the room from being too cave-like.
By the way, green is really having a moment too!
Nothing more classy and sophisticated than panelled walls. I don’t mean the panelled walls of the 70’s. Here we have a more modern wood tone with dark gray upholstered chairs. This is the perfect dining room for a bachelor pad!
Outdoor Dining
When the weather is warm we love to go outside to dine. Creating an actual dining room outside has been very popular. From the furniture to the accessories (and lighting), al fresco dining has been turned into an extension of the interior of the home.
This table and chairs might be outdoor furniture but they look like they would fit perfectly inside in a dining room!
This is the perfect outdoor kitchen with bar stools, table and chiars, lighting, and even a gorgeous dog!
Amazing Light Fixtures
I have always said that lighting can make or break a space. In the dining room it’s super fun to add a statement light fixture that will be the topic of everyones conversation.
This light fixture screams coastal, but it doesn’t take anything away from the view out of the window.
A large chandelier over the dining table can take the whole room to a new level!
If you have a long dining table, consider adding multiple light fixtures. It allows light for the entire table but also makes the room feel very grand!
