Of all the dark colors on the market I just love Benjamin Moore’s Cheating Heart. This cool-toned color is sure to give you just what you are looking for, and then some.

What color is Benjamin Moore Cheating Heart?

Cheating Heart is a gorgeous and sophisticated paint color that is deeply rooted in three areas: black, gray, and blue.

Depending on the light and the other colors you pair it with you can see these different colors. How they work with other furnishings is truly unique.

Cheating Heart’s Undertones

Cheating Heart is a very dark color. It is often seen as a soft black color or a very dark charcoal. What is unique about this color is the undertone in navy blue.

This blue undertone keeps this color cool but never stark and cold. Because it is so dark it really adds a lot of personality to a room and has a very cozy feel even though it is a cool-toned color.

Cheating Heart’s LRV

LRV stands for Light Reflective Value and it’s a scale that measures the amount of light a paint color reflects. Zero is the darkest black and 100 is the brightest white.

Cheating Heart sits at 6.9 which makes it a very dark color. This color is a soft black that is amazing on the exterior of the home.

It looks great on the interior but should be used in small doses unless your room gets a ton of natural light. Accent walls are perfect for Cheating Heart as well as furniture and cabinetry.

How to know if a paint color is right for you?

The best way to judge if a color is good for you then you will want to put a swatch on the wall and look at it over a few days. Look at it in different lights and decide if you really like it.

You can do this by getting a sample from the paint store and using a brush to put it up on the walls, but then you are left with a can that you can’t do anything with. Those samples are used with poor-quality paint and aren’t meant for use on your walls permanently.

I recommend going with Samplize. They are a company that will send you a 12X12 peel-and-stick swatch of a paint color that you can stick to the wall. When you are done just peel it off and throw it away.

It’s easy and much less messy!

Cheating Heart vs Wrought Iron

These two colors sit so close on the LRV spectrum, Cheating Heart at 6.9 and Wrought Iron at 6.2.

The most significant difference between them is undertones. Wrought Iron has more blue (and a touch of violet) whereas Cheating Heart has more gray.

Cheating Heart vs Peppercorn

Peppercorn is a very popular color but it’s actually quite different from Cheating Heart.

Peppercorn has an LRV of 10 which makes it much lighter than Cheating Heart. It also has purple undertones while Cheating Heart has blue.

That being said they do look fairly similar…

Cheating Heart vs Iron Ore

These two colors are also very close on the LRV scale with Iron Ore sitting at 6. As you can see in this side by side Iron Ore is noticeably darker. It’s amazing how much just a few tenths can make a difference.

Iron Ore also has slightly different undertones of blue and green, whereas Cheating Heart has blue and gray.

What is the best white to pair with Benjamin Moore Cheating Heart?

There are a lot of white paint colors that would look great with Cheating Heart. I would try to stick with off-whites so the contrast isn’t too stark.

Some of my favorites are SW Egret White, BM Cloud White, BM White Dove

What are the best coordinating colors for Cheating Heart?

All metallic colors look good with this color. If you plan to use this color on kitchen or bathroom cabinetry I love how it looks with both silver/chrome hardware as well as the gold family.

Cheating Heart is a dark color with blue undertones. When looking at the color wheel you want to find coordinating colors that are on the opposite side.

Here are some great options to pair with Cheating Heart that will bring out the best in the gorgeous color:

• off-whites
• beiges
• pinks
• Oranges and yellows

If you look close to the color on the color wheel some great options to pair with Cheating Heart would be colors in the blue or gray family. Just make sure you stick with lighter colors, around a 60 LRV or higher. This will provide a beautiful contrast while keeping the colors similar.

The Best Place to Use Benjamin Moore Cheating Heart

You can really use Cheating Heart anywhere. Just make sure that if you plan to use it on all the walls of a room you only use it in rooms with tons of natural light. Artificial light is a good substitute but natural is better.
