Sherwin Williams Krypton

Find out all the details on Sherwin Williams Krypton and how it looks in real homes!

Neutral decor has been really popular for a while but adding a pop of color really adds personality to your home. I get so many compliments on my Modern Coastal Powder Room where I used a Sherwin Williams Serious Gray. It’s the perfect dark color paired with white and creates a lot of drama!

So why not add a fun color somewhere in your home. Krypton is a great choice because it’s a gorgeous color but it’s not too dark.

Let’s get into the details on Sherwin Williams Krypton and why you should use it in your home!

What color is Sherwin Williams Krypton?

Krypton is a gorgeous blue gray paint color that is cool-toned. It’s a wonderful compliment to the greige paint colors that have dominated homes in recent years.

Kryton Undertones

This color is considered a blue with gray undertones. If you have been around a while then you know that when a color has gray undertones it mutes the primary color.

So in this case the gray is toning down the brightness of the blue. There is enough gray that this color could also be seen as a gray with strong blue undertones.

Is your head spinning yet….yeah I know.

Krypton LRV

LRV stands for Light Reflective Value. It is a scale from 0-100 and it measures the amount of light a color reflects. Zero being the darkest black and 100 being the brightest white.

Sherwin Williams Krypton sits at 52 which makes it a mid-toned color. Typically 60 and higher is considered a bright color, 30-60 is mid-toned.

Being a mid-toned color, especially at the top of the mid range, basically means that it has a good depth of color but is still light and bright.

How to know if a paint color is right for you?

The best way to judge if a color is good for you then you will want to put a swatch on the wall and look at it over a few days. Look at it in different lights and decide if you really like it.

You can do this by getting a sample from the paint store and using a brush to put it up on the walls, but then you are left with a can that you can’t do anything with. Those samples are used with poor-quality paint and aren’t meant for use on your walls permanently.

I recommend going with Samplize. They are a company that will send you a 12X12 peel-and-stick swatch of a paint color that you can stick to the wall. When you are done just peel it off and throw it away.

It’s easy and much less messy!

Krypton vs Upward

Upward is a little bit lighter than Krypton, it has an LRV of 57. As you can see from this side by side it is also more blue than Krypton.

Krypton vs Jubilee

These two colors are nearly identical in undertones. The difference between the two is that Jubilee is slightly darker with an LRV of 45. Both are really pretty colors.

Krypton vs North Star

As with Krypton and Jubilee these colors are very similar. The big difference is that North Star has an LRV of 64 which puts it much brighter than Krypton.

The Best White to Use with Krypton

If you are painting your trim white or using a white with Krypton I suggest going with one that is more bright white. It will really make Krypton stand out.

My favoriets are Highly Reflective White and Pure White.

Sherwin Williams Krypton Coordinating Colors

Krypton looks good with a myriad of other colors. I particularly like it with these colors:

  • white and off-white
  • beige
  • wood tones
  • brass and silver metalics
  • blacks
  • dark greiges

The Best Place To Use Krypton

Krypton can be used anywhere, and I do mean anywhere. It looks great on walls of a room, cabinets, furniture and more.

Personally I love the coolness of this color and think it is perfect for rooms where you are looking for more relaxation. In particular bedrooms and bathrooms.
