This shows a living room and a bedroom painted with Benjamin Moore Gray Owl.

This is a great paint color to brighten your space but still has a touch of gray color to it. Remember that when choosing a paint color, what looks good in your friend’s home might not look good in yours. The devil is in the undertones.

What color is Gray Owl?

Gray Owl is a gray paint color with blue/green undertones. What really matters with undertones is how much natural light the paint receives. In this case the more natural light the more the blue undertones show through. And the less natural light the more the green comes through.

Gray owl also has a high LRV of 66. This makes it a bright color that will reflect a lot of light in your room.

Just a reminder, LRV stands for Light Reflective Value and it measures the amount of light a paint color reflects. The higher the number the brighter the color.

Is Benjamin Moore Gray Owl Warm or Cool?

Because of the blue in the undertones this paint color is considered cool-toned. In recent years the trend has pulled more towards warm-toned or greige paint but if you have a coastal vibe or something more modern then cool is the way to go for you.

Does Gray Owl look blue?

It really depends on the amount of light a room gets as well as the other decor. If you have blue furniture agains a wall painted with Gray Owl then the blues will really come through.

If you have a lot of natural light and a beige sofa up against a wall painted with Gray Owl you won’t see the blue undertones nearly as much.

Is Benjamin Moore Gray Owl right for you?

How do you know if Benjamin Moore Gray Owl is right for you? You need to test a sample on your walls and look at it over the course of a few days in different lights. This will give you the best idea of what it will look like in your home.

You can get a paint sample from the paint store and put it on the wall but it’s messy and then you are left with this sample can that you can’t use anywhere else. I highly suggest going with Samplize instead.

Samplize is a company that will send you a peel and stick, 12×12 inch sample that you can put on the wall for a few days then when you are done, throw it away. It’s super easy and there is no mess!

What color goes with Gray Owl?

Benjamin Moore Boothbay Gray is a beautiful blue gray that definitely pulls more blue than Gray Owl but together they are stunning!

Benjamin Moore Decorator’s White is the perfect white to pair with Gray Owl. They are both on the cool side but Gray Owl warms up the white very well.
