Sherwin Williams Dover White

Sharing is caring!

If you’re searching for the perfect warm white that feels both timeless and inviting, Sherwin Williams Dover White might just be your match. This soft, creamy neutral strikes a beautiful balance between classic and cozy, making it a popular choice for everything from whole-house paint color to cabinetry and trim. Unlike stark whites that can feel cold or sterile, Dover White brings a gentle warmth that effortlessly complements a variety of styles—from traditional to modern farmhouse—while still feeling light and fresh.

What are the undertones of Sherwin Williams Dover White?

Dover White has decidedly yellow undertones. There is no doubt about it. That’s why this color can be a little tricky to deal with.

It doesn’t come off as a yellow paint color; it’s still a warm white, but it can definitely lean that way. If you don’t like yellow, then this one might not be for you.

What is Dover White’s LRV?

If you are unsure what LRV is, I have a whole post dedicated to it. Long story short, it’s a scale from 0-100 measuring the amount of light a paint color reflects. Zero is the darkest black, and 100 is the brightest white.

Dover White sits at 83, making it a pretty bright color. It will definitely brighten any space.

How to know if a paint color is right for you?

The best way to judge if a color is good for you then you will want to put a swatch on the wall and look at it over a few days. Look at it in different lights and decide if you really like it.

You can do this by getting a sample from the paint store and using a brush to put it up on the walls, but then you are left with a can that you can’t do anything with. Those samples are used with poor-quality paint and aren’t meant for use on your walls permanently.

I recommend going with Samplize. They are a company that will send you a 12X12 peel-and-stick swatch of a paint color that you can stick to the wall. When you are done, just peel it off and throw it away.

It’s easy and much less messy!

What is the best trim color to go with Dover White?

Honestly, the best trim color to pair with Dover White is Dover White. When you try to pair it with a bright white, it just makes Dover White look dingy. The best thing you can do it do wall and trim all in one color.

If you absolutely want to use a white trim with Dover White I would go with Pure White or Extra White.

What are the best coordinating colors?

Dark cream colors and darker tans pair really well with Dover White. Soft blues and greens also look great.

Stay away from greige and grays because the undertones really clash with Dover White.

Does Dover White look good on the exterior?

While white exteriors might not be as popular as they were in the previous years, Dover White will look good on the exterior, as long as you don’t mind the yellow coming through.

With the strong sun, the natural light will enhance the yellow undertones. If you are okay with that then go for it on the exterior!

Does Dover White look good on cabinets?

This all depends on the colors you pair it with. Otherwise, you risk your cabinets looking very yellow.

Does Dover White look yellow?

Yes, it will look yellow. How yellow is all about what colors you pair with it. If you want to tone down the yellow, then you might want to pair it with cool blacks or other dark accents.

Dover White on the walls looks great with the crisp white trim. The reason this works so well is that there is ample natural light and the crisp white is carried into the kitchen, tying it all together.
