DIY, or “Do It Yourself,” has become more than just a trend—it’s a mindset that encourages creativity, self-sufficiency, and a hands-on approach to problem-solving.
DIY empowers individuals to take control of their own projects. In a world where convenience often takes precedence, the DIY movement reminds us of the satisfaction and fulfillment that comes from creating something with our own two hands. But what does DIY really mean beyond just a hobby?
This photo above has a ton of DIY projects. I did the board and batten on the walls, I refinished the buffet, the dining table, and the chairs. I also reupholstered the chairs (which I got on Facebook Marketplace for $40!).
DIY’s Meaning
DIY is short for do it yourself. For me, I love to DIY home improvement projects, maintenance, and crafts. Sometimes I even like to DIY gifts for loved ones.
One of the reasons I DIY is to save money because many times, I wouldn’t be able to hire a professional.
Another reason I DIY is because I love it! I love creating and DIYing things around my home gives me that creative outlet.
But DIY isn’t just for the home. You can DIY auto repairs, cake decorating, sewing your own clothes or bedding, and just about anything you do that many people would hire a professional to do.
If you were to search #DIY in tags on Instagram, you would be shocked at the variety of topics that would show up. The DIY umbrella covers just about everything so it can mean different things to different people.
